Raanjhanaa, a romantic drama film about the difficulties in relationships amid deception and deceit, was released in India on November 18th, 2013. The film is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. It's the story of a wealthy young woman who falls for a poor boy with an innocent soul. After getting together with him, he quickly becomes close to her family members while she becomes completely entrenched with his life. The more time they spend together, their relationship grows complicated as they try to reconcile personal lives and avoid risking exposure. The cast of "Raanjhanaa" is a large one, with many different characters who join the main narrative at different times. The film begins with a narration from Antara (Deepika Padukone) about how she met the protagonist, Noni Sikandar (Shahid Kapoor), and how he came to be her husband. In short, Antara was an average girl from Brussels that had just finished her degree and wanted to work abroad. During the journey on the train back home, she meets Noni and they fall in love. Having fallen in love with him, she is ready to do anything for him and is willing to move back with him to Punjab and start their life together. The film then fast-forwards to two years after their marriage. The film is split into four parts. The first is about the numerous attempts that Antara makes to convince Noni that he needs to abandon his old lifestyle and move to Punjab with her family so they can be together, but they are continually thwarted by Noni's stubbornness. The second is flashback viewers are given of how Antara was able to convince Noni of the need for him to move away from his hometown and how he agreed to do so. The third is about the moment Antara had to convince her family that she was actually in love with him, after which they would allow them to marry. The fourth is about their eventual wedding day and how everything comes together, including his decision of whether or not he will move back to Punjab. Shahid Kapoor stars as Noni Sikandar Singh Gill, a young man living in Khatkar Kalan village near Ludhiana in Punjab with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sikandar Singh Gill (Vinod Khanna and Zarina Wahab). His father was a good man who loved his family dearly when he was alive but died when Noni was 16 years old. He is still an object of great affection to the villagers. Noni is not only intelligent, but also has a very kind heart even though his father was not nearly that kind. His family tries their best to support him with their meager income, but they are frequently in debt because of his unwillingness to work in Punjab. He loves Antara (Deepika Padukone) way too much, and she convinces his family that he needs to move back with them in Punjab in order for them to be together forever.
